I can't believe it's been 3 months since my last post! Our computer crashed, so we were without one for awhile, then we got a Mac, and I have no idea how to use it! So, we'll see how this goes.
It's tarantula season here and Mark has been busy hoping out of the car to trap spiders crossing the road in zip lock bags to bring back to the kids. The hairy arachnid is a popular pet and makes a great center piece on the table.
Friday the 8th found us rushing off in the morning for Bean Hollow State Beach about 40 minutes north of Santa Cruz. Our mission was to observe an 80-foot beached blue whale. We did not realize that Bean Hollow is two beaches and the first one we came to was not the one that beheld our desired spectacle. It was, however, a great place for the kids to explore and provided many photo opportunities.

After sorting through the pebbles and collecting shells we drove down the highway a bit to our intended destination. These pictures do not do justice to the enormity of the creature. It was truly amazing to see!

The last week of September Mark had a conference in Las Vegas. While Michaela and Moriah held down the fort at home, Emily, Jeremiah, and I went along with the promise of some great gelato at the Bellagio! Emily and I saw Cirque de Soleil Mystere! I would definitely see that again! Mark and I saw the Blue Man Group, very entertaining - and loud. The most exciting part was that before the show Mark's name was on the scrolling marquee. A few famous people in the audience had had their names and accomplishments displayed, and then Mark's name came scrolling along. The words that followed said he was an average guy of no particular importance, and that that was all the more reason to applaud him! Mark stood and was applauded by an entire Vegas theater!
After lots of shopping, eating, entertainment, and walking we left for the next leg of our trip, Burbank, home of the Warner Bros. studio

After the tour, on which we saw in real life Yvonne Strahovski! (She plays Sarah on Chuck), we went to the Getty Center to take in some culture, and more good food. The Getty Center has drawings, paintings, tapestries, a beautiful garden, and much more. Jeremiah enjoyed taking rich dark dirt from the planters and scattering it across the walking paths.
Our final stop was Santa Monica Pier. Here Jeremiah got to have a real parrot sit on his lap, but of course we didn't get a picture. We enjoyed the sights, sounds, and of course tastes of the famous pier.
The trip home was brutal: leaving during L.A. going home traffic, but we made it and were greeted by Michaela and Moriah who did an excellent job taking care of the kids and keeping the house running. Thanks girls!
Whew! that was a lot, planning to post more regularly over the next few months. Hope you enjoyed "seeing" the kids.

Great memories. I would have been right there w/Josiah coving my nose, wonder if my sharp senses would have gagged me??
